BLAIR, George
, (d.), b. in Perthshire, Scot., 1809, d. 1892, at 82 years of
age. He was a shawl weaver in Scot., and came to Canada in 1849, stopping a
few months in Dundas. As he could not find work at his trade he bought 100
acres, lot 13, con. 6, W. Flamboro, and later moved to Burlington, where he
died. He was School Trustee for some year sin Flamboro, and was a Pres. And a
Liberal. He m. Ellen Nichol in 1832. The only one of the family in the
country is James, who came to Puslinch in 1877, and bought the Beattie
homestead, of 100 acres, front lot, con. 8, on which Wm. Thompson was the
first settler, and has since lived on it. He was Trustee S. S. No. 4 for some
time. He is an Independent in politics, voting for the best man. He m.
Elizabeth Galloway, of East Flamboro. Issue: Mrs. Isaac Patterson, Toledo,
Ohio; John, expert machinist, Waterloo; Mrs. (Rev) R.V. Bingham, of Christian
Workers and Secy. of the African Industrial Mission; Frederick, in the civil
service, Ottawa; William, working the farm and Clarence and George, who run
the general store at Aberfoyle. The firm is also in George and Clarence's
name.
