MARTIN, Thomas
, b. Cornwall, Eng., 1844, came to Canada with his parents in
1858, and set. first in Darlington. In 1872 he moved to Manvers, where he
remained ten years. In 1882 he purchased 100 acres in West Garafraxa,
constituting the present fine farm on lot 10, con. 6, where he pursues stock
farming on an extensive scale. He is interested in the welfare of the
township but has never sought office. He is Pathmaster of the township. Mr.
Martin is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. In 1869 he m. Margaret A. Tait, of
Pickering. Issue: William T., on lot 6, con. 8, West Garafraxa, and James A.
James A. m. Miss Cook, of East Garafraxa, and set. on the homestead with his father. Issue: Cecil and Grace. The Martin family are well respected and representative sturdy English type of our Canadian colonists. They supported the Presbyterian church and voted the Liberal ticket at elections.
