IRVINE, Thomas , was b. Mountain, Dundas Co., in 1840. Mr. Irvine first purchased 100 acres in Matilda Tp., and farmed it for some years. He then sold out and came to Luther, and purchased 100 acres. Mr. Irvine had never any financial help, but made all of his property by himself, and educated his family sending them out well fitted to start life's battles. He is practically retired from active life, and has the respect of the entire community. He has been active in the Methodist church, having been class leader for 20 years, and Trustee of the Building Committee of the Quarterly Board, and Delegate to Conference. He is a Conservative in politics. In 1860, he m. Liza J. Haines… Issue: Henry, Mrs. W. J. Ellis (d. 35); Mrs. Andrew Ellis, Mrs. John Foster; Mrs. Robt. Stirling, and William, Arthur.

William runs the Victoria livery in Arthur, which is popular with the travelling public, and where good rigs can always be obtained. He m. Susan Brownlee.
