McBEATH, Peter
, b. Perthshire, Scot. He came to Canada in 1830, and lived for about 6 months
in Toronto, after which he came to Puslinch, being among the first to settle in
the township. He helped on the new survey, and came into possession of 100
acres, lot 23, con. 7, and was killed by a falling tree, while clearing his
farm. He was a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. Issue: Mrs. Thomas Todd, Puslinch,
and Malcolm.
Malcolm was 12 years old when he came to Puslinch with his father. He finished clearing the farm, and increased it to 223 ½ acres. He never held municipal office, but was Trustee for a number of years of S.S. No. 4. He was a strong church worker, attending , in his latter years, Dr. Torrance's church in Guelph. He m. Margaret Little. Surviving issue: Mrs. Chas. Cockburn, Cal,; Christopher, on the homestead; Peter, in Hamilton; Isabella, Aberfoyle; Mrs. Chas. Stewart, Strabane; Mrs. Frank Cockburn, and James, Devils Lake. Christopher owns and operated the homestead, 223 ½ acres, lots 23, 24, and 25, con. 7. He carries on mixed farming, making a specialty of fancy draught horses. Although he has been active in politics on the Liberal side, he has never sought or held municipal office. He has been Trustee of S.S. No. 4, for 4 years. In religion, he is a Presbyterian. He m. Janet McNaughton. Issue: Maggie (d.), 1901; James M. (d.) 4; Janet S., Mary, Ada, and Norma.
