REID, William (d.), b. Co. Sligo, Ire., in 1811; d. 1895, age 84. He came to Canada with his wife and one child and worked for one year in Toronto, and then went to Halton Co., where he worked for six years in a grist mill. In 1840 he came to Arthur and took up the present homestead 100 acres, lot 11, con. 9, which still remains in the family, and is now valued at $7,500. Mr. Reid made his property by his own exertions, and was never sued in his life. He was a member of the English church, and a Conservative. He m. Jane Reid, who d. in 1896, age 85. Issue: George (d.), Joseph, Mount Forest; William (d.), Ann (d.), Mrs. John Nichol (d.), and Robert.

Robert succeeded to the homestead upon which he was born in 1848. He carries on mixed farming. He is a member of the English church, and is held in the highest esteem. He m. Ann Munns in 1880. She d. in 1898, age 58. Issue: Mary J., Edith A., George J., and Elwin R.
