McKENZIE, Kenneth
(d.), b. 1815; d, 1877, was born in Ross-shire, Scot. and came to Puslinch Tp,
in 1843, purchasing a squatter's claim on lot 17 con. 10. After clearing this
he increased his holdings to 200 acres by purchasing lot 18, con. 10, and lot
16, con. 11. He was a man of great personal activity, and an extremely hard
worker, attending always to his private business, and leaving municipal honors
to others who were eager for them. He was a consistent Presbyterian and a
staunch Liberal. He m. Christina Cameron, who came to Canada in 1832. Issue:
Annie, d, in infancy; Archibald, Donald (d. at 26), while studying for the
ministry ; Annie, at the home farm; Alexander in Wentworth Co.; Duncan, d. 1900
age 42; Kenneth, Peter, who went to Montana in 1881; Janet, a nurse in
Rochester, and Christina at home.
Kenneth, unm., owns and works the homestead, which he has in a first class state of cultivation. He has one of the finest homes in the township, and he and his sisters take pride in keeping it in that condition. Kenneth devotes his entire attention to his farm work, and does not take an active part in municipal or political matters. He makes a specialty of Oxfordown sheep, breeding for the local market. He is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal, and one of the most respected men in the township. Archibald is a great traveller, having been all over the Western States and Canada several times, as well as the Scotland. He is now in Yorkton, N.W.T. He is a mason by trade, and is unm.
