MOORE, David (d.). the subject of this sketch was of Scotch descent. His ancestors having embarked from Scot. to Conn., where he was b. He d. in 1875, age 72. He was among the first settlers of the "Scotch Block," Esquesing Tp., Halton Co., where he cleared his farm, which was covered with pine, living there until his death. He was very successful; a member of the Pres. church and a staunch Liberal. He m. Johanna Silverthorn. Issue: Jonathan, Mrs. George Black (d.), David (d.), Nelson, Mrs. William Squirrel and Mrs. Logie. Nelson at 21 went to a farm in Huron Co., where he cleared 50 acres; later he sold out and kept general store in Churchville Ont., for about 6 years, when he was burned out; then kept store in Alton for three years, and later in Brussels. After about 10 years of merchandising he farmed for a time near Milton, Ont., and later rented a farm in Guelph Tp., for three years, which he carried on in conjunction with cattle dealing. He afterwards bought 60 acres on the Waterloo road, which he later sold to Mr. Sorby at a considerable advance on the purchase price. In 1885 he purchased and set. on a property situated on the west side of the Brock road, corner of Moore Ave. which he has sub-divided into building lots, on which he has erected ten houses, as will be seen by reference to the map. Mr. Moore has practically retired. In religious views he is a Divine Scientist, and in politics a Liberal. He m. Jane Hunter near Brampton.
