SCOTT, William ,
(d.), of Puslinch, was b. in Selkirk, Scot., 1804, d. 1851, at the
age of 47. He came first to GaIt and afterwards to Puslinch, settling on lot
15, con. 7. At that time the country was all bush, and he had to follow
the "blazed" path to his place. There were no roads cut out, bears and wolves
were plentiful, and made night hideous with their howling. He cleared the
farm, and there lived until his death. His wife survived him about sixteen
years. He was a Presbyterian, and Elder in Dr. Torrance's church for years. In
politics he was a Reformer, and was one of the early Councillors of Puslinch.
He m. in Guelph, Christina Todd, who was b. in Peebles, Scot. Issue:
Thomas, Jean, James, Isabella, Mrs. John Kelly, Walter, Mrs. Robert Earon, set.
in Woodstock. Thomas, set. in St. Paul; Jean, m. Thomas McKellop, set. in
St. Joseph, Mis.; Walter, m. Jean McGregor, set. in U.S.; James, and Isabella,
remained on the homestead in Puslinch.
James was a leading man in the township, and held the office of Councillor, Reeve, and at the time of his death in 1904, was County Commissioner. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and a Reformer in politics. He willed the farm to James R. Earon, his nephew, reserving a life lease to his sister, Isabella Scott. Mr. Earon carries on mixed farming, making a specialty of thoroughbred Southdown sheep, and his farm is in a fine state of cultivation. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
