McEACHERN, Rodger , was b. Argyleshire, Scot., 1828, and came to Canada in 1850, set. Renfrew Co. He came to Minto in 1854, and m. Elizabeth Morrison the same year. When Mr. McEachern came to Canada, the only ry. in the country was a short line from Montreal to Lachine, which he saw on this way by stage to "Bytown," now Ottawa. Mr. McEachern and his young wife travelled by boat and stage from Renfrew Co., to near Mt. Forest, and from there followed a "blaze" to the seventh con., where he had taken up 100 acres, lot 11. He cut out a clearing and put up a small log shanty, which did service until they could build a better one. He cleared this farm, and has since lived there. He was one of the promoters of the Knox church, in Harriston, and helped cut, draw and score the timbers for it. He was Elder for some years. Issue: Peter, who m. Elizabeth Sinclair, and works the old homestead. Issue: Charles P., Dr. Donald, practising physician at Linwood; Mrs. Henry Williamson, Mrs. Allan McGillivray, and Mrs. Henry Roe. The members of this family, like their parents, are very highly respected.
