BOHN, Christian
(d.), b. near Mecklenburg, Ger., 1815; d. 1894; m. Louisa
Bougue. He was a weaver by trade, and came to Canada in 1855. He pursued his
business in Preston, making his own loom that he started business with. In
1870 he retired to a small farm that he started business with. In 1870 he
retired to a small farm which he had purchased near Hespeler, where he lived
until his death. He was a consistent member of the Lutheran church, and in
politics a Liberal. Issue: Helmuth, on homestead; Henry, in Chicago; Mrs.
John Speckien; Louis, in California; John F., and Mrs. Henry Brickel. John F.
has always farmed, and was for seven years with John Phin, Waterloo County,
and later rented the Shortreed farm in the "Paisley Block", and the Howitt
farm. In 1904 he bought lot 26, con. 1, Puslinch, 100 acres, where he has
since resided, and carries on mixed farming, and is very successful. He m.
Mary Slater, dau. of Ex-Alderman Slater, of Guelph. Issue: William, Alice,
Harry, and Leonard. In religion he is a Pres., and in politics a
Conservative.
