GOW, James
(d.), was b. in Scotland in 1803, and came to Canada in 1840, set. in
Brockville, and in 1852 removed to Guelph. He was a shoemaker by trade, and
carried on the business both in Brockville and Guelph. In religion he was a
Presbyterian, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Isabella Hannah, also of
Scotland.
Of their family: James was b. in Brockville in 1843, and in 1857 set. in Garafraxa Tp., on lot 6, con. 1. He is in the building, stone and lime business, and ships lime to all parts of Ontario. Mr. Gow is an able and successful business man. He is a Presbyterian, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Mary Cameron, of Beaverton, Ont. Issue: George A., William R., Isabella H., Alice C., James A., John F., Homer H., Reuben A., Harrold L. and Stella M. William Gow came to Fergus with his brother, and was in the sawmill business until about 1894, when he went into the fish business. He is also proprietor and manager of the knitting factory at Fergus. He is a member of the Brethren church; an Orangeman, and a Conservative. He m. Margaret MacDonald, of Scotland.
