It is said that his was the first oxcart ever driven through Wallace, William, Sr., going ahead and cutting down the saplings, while his sons followed with the ox team. Wallace Tp. at this time had not been surveyed, and there were no roads. The Brides "blazed" their own path en route to Minto, only to find as trackless a forest as they had passed through. They boarded in a small shanty in Wallace and followed the deer path back and forth to their land in Minto, where they made a clearing and built a log shanty. He m. Jane Fallis in Ireland. Issue: William, Jr., and John, b. in Ireland, and Mrs. James Fallis, Richard, Mrs. Nathan Fallis, Hugh, living in Palmerston, and Mrs. Isaac Wright, b. in Canada. William Bride, Sr., was noted for his genial nature and hospitality, as well as for good citizenship, and was very popular. Under his hospitable roof the early pioneers passing through sought shelter, and it was here that the itinerant preacher or weary traveller found a welcome. He lived on the farm for nearly forty years, passing away in 1888 at the advanced age of 82 years.

William Bride, Jr., his eldest son, was b. in Ireland, and came to Minto with the family. He m. a daughter of the old pioneer Jonathan Lee, Sr., and here lived for many years, finally selling out his farm and retiring from active life. He has property in the adjoining county - where he makes his home.

Richard Bride was eleven years old when the family came to Minto, and was practically brought up here. Like his father he is a strong Conservative, and has been active in political matters. He has held the office of Councilor, Deputy Reeve, Assessor, Tax Collector and Census Enumerator; and County Valuator, County Councillor for one term, and Justice of the Peace for thirty years. He m. Margaret J. Spence, of Albion. Issue: Three daughters and two sons, all living in Minto. The Bride family has always taken a prominent place in the community and been held in high respect.
