RATHBUN, William H
. (d.), b. Blenheim, Oxford Co., 1836; d. 1901, age 65. He was a son of William
Rathbun, who was b. in Pennsylvania, and is connected with the old Rathbun
family of Deseronto. The old homestead is in Dufferin County. The Rathbun's
have never cared much for public life, but have bee much associated with the
sawmilling and lumber industry of Ontario. The pioneer owned sawmills in
Blenheim, and imported the first shingle mill into that part of Ontario.
William H. Rathbun m. Mary Dickson. Mrs. Rathbun now owns and occupies the farm
of 100 acres, part lots 5 and 6, con. 6, West Garafraxa. Issue: Robert H.,
Duluth; Margaret S., Mrs. John F. Rathbun, set. Drumbo; Charles, Van E., set.
Hood River Oregon; William L., Vancouver; Mrs. Dana C. Reed, set. Mount Iron,
Minn. where he is a civil engineer; George B., builder and contractor, Lacomb,
Alberta; Mrs. Lewis Armstrong, Eramosa; Mrs. Thomas McKee, Vancouver;
Henrietta, on the homestead; Eva, Guelph; and Andrew, at home managing the
property.
The Rathbuns of West Garafraxa are much respected, and the sons and daughters of the late William H. Rathbun have all done well. Robert H. is one of the leading grocers in Duluth, while several of the others are prominent and prosperous, with good positions in life. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
