DALEY, Thomas
. The late Thomas Daley, was b. in Bandon, Ire. He came to Guelph Tp. in 1836,
and in 1846 set. in Peel, lot 8, con. 14, where he purchased 200 acres. Mr.
Daley was very popular with the people, and was noted for his kindness and
generosity. As he was a man of means, he was, perhaps, occasionally too liberal
in giving to others. He used to say, "Money was made to go round." In the
community, everyone speaks of his "Irish generosity," and at his death, in
1891, at the age of 72, people from all parts came to pay the last tribute of
regard. He was a member of the English church, in which he was a Warden; a
Conservative, in politics, and was Township Clerk of Peel for some years. He m.
Ann Turner, who d. in 1881, at the age of 60. Issue: Elizabeth (d.), m. Jonah
Cook, and set. in Dakota, and William.
William has the farm known as "Hazel Grove", containing 200 acres, on lots, 1 and 3. con. 13. He has acquired all of the extensive property by his individual efforts from boyhood up, and has retired from active labor, leaving the management of the farm to his children, who are engaged in mixed farming, owning and breeding Clyde stallions, grade cattle, Leicester sheep, and Berkshire hogs. Mr. Daley belongs to the English church, and is a Conservative. He m. Mirah Cullum, who d. in 1896, aged 51. Their issue: John, d.; Margaret, Thomas, William, Jean, Samuel. John. Maynard, Maria, and Maude. Thomas, and William, are in the North-West, engaged in land speculating, and the others are at home with their father.
