HEMING, Edward F . (d.), was b. in Sussex, Eng. The Hemings were French Huguenots, and came to Eng. in 1685, where they were professional men, bankers, etc. The late Edward F. Heming received a liberal education in Eng. and when he came to Canada in 1830, brought considerable means with him. Soon after his arrival in Guelph, he m. Sarah E. Jones. She was b. in Wales, and came to Guelph, with her parents in 1830. They were m. by Rev. Arthur Palmer, and it was one of the first, if not the first marriage, solemnized in Guelph. He purchased several hundred acres of land on the Eramosa road in Guelph Tp., and there settled, and employed men to clear the farm.

The late Edward F. Heming was Capt. of Militia, and served in the Rebellion of 1837-8. He was a Magistrate for years, and lived here until 1854, at which time his wife died, and he returned to Eng. and there passed the balance of hie days. They had the following issue-all born on the Guelph farm ---viz.: George E., Charles H., Howard P., Walter J., Edward F., Jr., Anna M. and Thomas L. (d.).

George E. m. Frances A. Morgan, set. in Hamilton, where he was a successful coal dealer.

Charles H. was b. on the Guelph homestead in 1839. When a young man he became a general merchant and Postmaster at Bognor, Gray Co., which business he carried on for many years, when he sold out and returned with his family to the old homestead in Guelph Tp., which he owns (132 acres). He m. Anna C. Dayman. Issue: Mrs. Robert Frizzel, Edward F., Walter W., Anna M., Cecil F., Henry P., Gertrude, Thomas H., Charles O. and Frank A. The family belong to the Church of England, and in politics Mr. Heming is a Conservative.

Of his father's family, Howard P. is Divisional Court Clerk, Meaford; Walter J. set. in Owen Sound, and Edward F., Jr., d. unm.
