HOLTOM, Robert
, while not being a pioneer in Wellington Co., has resided in Minto over thirty
years, during which time he has held nearly all of the municipal offices within
the gift of the people. He was a Councillor for many years, Dep. Reeve, Reeve,
Warden of Wellington Co., County Commissioner and Magistrate. Robert Holtom was
b. in Buckinghamshire, Eng., in 1850, receiving a liberal education. In 1871 he
came to Canada and set. in Toronto. He had learned the brick manufacturing
business in Eng., and in 1874 he embarked in this business in Minto, at Drew,
where he has since carried it on successfully. He also owns 100 acres of farm
land in the vicinity, which he operates. He has taken an active interest in
military affairs, and was Captain of the Harriston Co., of 30th Wellington
Rifles, for nine years. He was one of the promoters of the Drew Methodist
church, and one of its most liberal supporters, and leader of the choir from
the commencement. He has been a representative from the Grand Lodge to the
Dominion Lodge Royal Templars of Temperance. He is an enthusiastic curler, and
is very popular, not only with the Harriston club, but with the visiting clubs
as well. He enjoys the confidence and respect of the whole community. He m.
