FORGIE, John
(d.), was b. Aberdeen, Scot., 1833, and came to Canada in
1853, settling in Whitby. He then purchased a farm near Claremont, where he
lived until his death His family were all b. in Claremont. The late Mr.
Forgie started in life with nothing, and raised and educated all of his
family, giving his sons a good start in life. He m. Barbara Duncan.
William Forgie, son of the late John Forgie, was b. in Pickering Tp., in 1860. He came to Arthur in 1886, and bought 106 acres of land, where he commenced farming, pursuing the same methods as in Ontario County. He was one of the first to start under draining, and his early experience in the lower country proved of great value. Since coming here, he has been quite successful; he had only $1,000 to start with, and is now the owner of 300 acres of land, lot, 1, con. 7, Arthur, which is in the highest state of cultivation, and valued at $10,000. He is an extensive raiser of thoroughbred Durhams, and cattle for export. Mr. Forgie has held the office of School Trustee, and Elder of the Presbyterian church, and in politics, is a Liberal. He m.
