NESBITT, John
, was b. Co. Monaghan, Ire., 1841. He came with his parents, and their family
of ten children from Ireland, in 1874, and landed in New York. From there the
family came on to Nichol, and set. on lot 3, con. 14, where John was raised.
John Nesbitt first started for himself on a bush farm in Peel Tp. By his
industry he improved it until it became one of the finest and most valuable in
the township. In 1901, he sold it and bought the old Groves homestead, 190
acres, lot 14, con. 1, West Garafraxa, where he has since resided. He has been
School Trustee and Warden of the English church in Peel Tp. In politics he is a
Conservative. In 1879 he m. Sarah Jane, dau, of the late Abraham Groves, one of
the early settlers of West Garafraxa. Both the Nesbitt and Grove families have
been identified as early settlers of the county, and among the most aggressive
agriculturalists, highly respected and well liked.
Mr. Nesbitt's farm, as to buildings, residence and tillage, is first-class in every respect.
