McBAIN, Paul
(d.), b. Inverness-shire, Scot.; d. at the age of 76. He came to Canada in
1843, settling first in Esquesing, and in 1853 removing to Erin, where he owned
100 acres, the east half of lot 5, con. 2. He started in Esquesing on a rough
farm, with little money, and became successful. He was a man of strict
integrity, a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Annie McBain. Issue: Benjamin,
b. 1835; John, James (d.), William (d.), and George.
John, b 1837, ,kept a general store in Ospringe, and was later a clerk in Brampton, and kept a general store in Acton, where he died. George, b. 1845, came to Erin when eight years of age. He purchased 200 acres, lot. 4 con. 1, and twelve years later bought lot 3, con 2. On account of his wife's health, he sold the north 100 acres, keeping the 100 acres on the south. He is a lover and breeder of fine horses, and has taken prizes with his thoroughbred Shorthorns, at various fairs. He is a first-class citizen, a Presbyterian, and a Liberal, In 1866 he m.
