WOLFE, John
(d.), b. near Hamburg, Germany, 1807; d. Waterloo Co., Ont., 1876. He m.
Barbara Seigel in Germany, in 1831, and the same year came to Canada and set.
in Waterloo Co., where they passed their remaining days. He was an Elder in the
Lutheran Church, in which he took an active interest. As a citizen he was an
honest and upright man, and had the respect of all who knew him. His issue:
George, owns the old homestead in Waterloo; Paul, set. in Strasburg; Michael,
Mrs. Wm. Toms, John, set. in Walkerton; Fred, set. in Waterloo Co.; and Henry,
set, in Elmwood.
Michael was b. in Waterloo Tp., in 1849, and was raised and educated there. He m. Mary Ann Welsh, dau. of James Welsh, a pioneer of Galt. Issue: Margaret and John. Michael Wolfe owns 150 acres, lot 3, con. 3, Guelph Tp., where he lives and carries on mixed farming, although he makes a specialty of road horses, of which he has owned some of the best in the section. He started in life without means, and his large well-stocked farm has been the result of his own energy and good management. He and his family, are members of the Pres. church, and in politics Mr. Wolfe is a Liberal. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
