TURNER, William
(d.). This old pioneer was b. in Staffordshire Eng., in 1823, and was there
raised, and m. Elizabeth Barlow. In six years, and then moved to Toronto, where
he ran a dairy business until 1872, when he came to Minto and purchased part of
the Smithhurst farm, 125 acres, pts. lots 28 and 29, con. 17. He was a man who
made his own way in the world and was very successful. He was Postmaster at
Smithhurst for about twenty years, which gave him a wide acquaintance, and he
had the confidence and respect of the whole community. Some years before his
death he built a brick residence at Drew Station, where he resided until his
death in 1901. His wife d. in 1890, age 69. Issue;: Isaac, Mrs. John Bell, Mrs.
Thomas Shannon, William, Enoch, Mrs. Philip Harper, Annie and John.
The members of this family are representative citizen wherever they have set.
Isaac, the eldest son, is a resident of Guelph; Mrs. John Bell, Mrs. Shannon
and William, are residents of Minto; Enoch, set. in Toronto; John, coal agent
for the C.P.R. in B.C.
William, m. Jane McLachlan, and owns and farms 96 acres, lot 26, con. 17. This farm is first-class one and is situated right at Drew Station . He makes a specialty of stock and dairy farming. He is one of the substantial men of Minto; a School Trustee, a member of the Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
