COLTER, William , one of the most prominent farmers of Maryborough Tp., is a son of the late Joseph Colter, who was b. in Ireland in 1824, and came in early life to Canada with his parents, who were pioneer settlers in Downie Tp. He m. Ellen Monteith, of the prominent Downie family of that name.

William Colter was b. and brought up in Downie Tp. Of Joseph Colter's issue, William, John, Robert and Samuel came to Maryborough, the former in 1890. He m. Grace Mannell. Issue: Nellie, Margaret, Myrtle and William. He is the owner of 200 acres of land, and one of the most progressive men in the. section. In politics he is a Conservative, but, outside of School Trustee, he has not aspired to public office. He and family are consistent members of the Presbyterian church.
