MUNRO, John ,
(d.), b. Ross-shire, Scot., 1808, d. 1890, age 82. He came to Canada
in 1845, settling first in Wilmont, and in 1850 came to Puslinch, and set. on
lot 27, con. 7. Although he never sought or held office he took a healthy
interest in political, and all other matters pertaining to the welfare of the
township. He was a man of great personal activity, and before the advent of
railways, when the country was new, he frequently walked to Galt or Guelph and
back to Puslinch the same day. In politics he was a Liberal, and in religion a
Presbyterian, and was always active in the affairs of his church. He m.
Grace Graham, dau. of Daniel Graham, of Tain, Scot. Issue: Andrew, Mrs.
Wm. Birney, set. Calgary; John and Annie.
Andrew Munro was b. Tain, Scot., 1854, and came to Canada in early youth. He was raised practically in Puslinch, and attended school section No. 8, Puslinch, of which he is now one of the Trustees. He has been Sanitary Inspector of Puslinch for over twenty years, also a J.P. for the Co. of Wellington. He was a Trustee of Duff's Church for six years and for ten years has been an Elder. He was for many years Trustee of the Crown Cemetery. He m. Margaret Patterson, dau. of John Patterson, of Ballena, Ire. Issue: John W., Grace E., Margaret M., and Mabel. Mr. Munro still owns the old homestead, lot 27, con. 7, but resides on lot 36, con. 7. John was Principal of the Central School, West Ottawa, and was one of the most foremost educators of the Province of Ontario. He d. unmarried. Annie resides with her brother.
