SUTHERLAND, David
, was b. John O'Groats, Caithness, Scot., 1859. After finishing school he was
apprenticed to the boot and shoe trade for four years. In 1883 he came to
Canada and set. in Harriston, and in 1893 opened a boot and shoe store on his
own account, and has built up the largest business in this line in town. Mr.
Sutherland is very popular, not only with his customers, whose confidence he
has to the fullest extent, but his genial manner and personal popularity has
made his store a sort of headquarters for that substantial class in Harriston,
who have mostly retired from business, and who meet there to discuss the topics
of the day. Mr. Sutherland m. Jane Niven in 1896. Issue: Jean and Thomas.
