McMILLAN, Alexander
(d.), was b. Greenock, Scot., in 1800, d. in Erin, in 1848. He came
to Canada in 1836, and after teaching school one year in Lower Canada,
purchased 100 acres, lot 12, con. 4, Erin where he set., and which he cleared.
He m. Maggie Campbell, Scot., who d. 1863, age 70. They were Disciples in
religion, and in politics he was a Liberal. He was a man of strong character,
and strict integrity, and had just got in a good financial condition, when
death removed him. Issue: Janet, Barbara Katie, John, James, Archibald,
Alexander, and Dugald.
Dugald, was b. in Erin Tp., in 1839, and has always lived there. He succeeded to the homestead, which he retained until the early ninties, when he sold it, and purchased lot 23, con. 9, which he has greatly improved, and where he still resides. He is a successful man, and good farmer, having the respect of the community at large. He m. Ann, dau. of Donald McLean. Issue: Sarah, Mary A., Daniel, Mrs. Albert Rooney, Toronto; John, Alexander, and Christina. Alexander, his son, was b. in Erin, in 1863, and was there raised. He m. Lecretia Harris. Issue: John H., Winfred L., and Martha A. He owns 200 acres of land, lot 19, con. 7, Eramosa, where he resides, and carries on mixed farming.
