DICKSON, George (d.), was b. Monaghan Co., Ire., and d. in 1897, age 80. He came to Canada with his brothers, Samuel, John and James, and sister Mrs. McLatchie, and parents, set. in Petersboro first and came to Maryborough before the township was surveyed, and purchased 200 acres, lot 12, con. 5, also 200 acres on lot 14, con. 4. The boys cleared up both farms. Samuel, d. Maryborough at the age of 91. George very soon went to Downie Tp., where he was one of the pioneers, and was chairman at the meeting to form a township. He was a Presbyterian and a Conservative. He m. Sarah Nelson. Issue: Samuel J., Detroit; George, Downie Tp.; Mrs. George Redcliffe (d.), Buffalo; David, Stratford; Mrs. Thomas Nelson, Oxford Co.; James, Thomas on the homestead; Alfred, in Downie; Mrs. Moore, and Henry, Ellis Tp. James was b. in the Gore of Downie, where he farmed until he came to Maryborough in 1892. He owns 200 acres, lot 14, con. 4, also a part of lot 12, con. 5. He carries on mixed farming. He has been Trustee of S.S. No. 18. for three years, and is a Presbyterian and a Conservative. He m. Mary Kerr. Issue: James, Flossie, Sarah and Stella.
