COPELAND, James
(d.), was a son of the late Jonathan Copeland, who was a pioneer in Peel Co.,
where the subject of this sketch was b in 1823. He m. Mary C. Whetham, of the
Peel Co. pioneer family of that name. They lived in Minto Tp. ten years,
later three years in Niagara Tp. and then came to Eramosa and set. on the 83
acres lot 4, con. 4. The late Mr. Copeland was a very active man, fairly well
educated, and took an active part in the affairs generally, and especially in
church matters and politics, being a consistent member of the Methodist church
and a Reformer. He d. in 1883. His widow resides in Rockwood. His son Ezra,
b. 1853, owns the homestead known as "Riverside Farm," where he makes a
specialty of dairy farming and poultry, keeping a large number of cows for
that purpose, and in poultry pure bred Black Minorcas and Pekin ducks. In
religion he is a Methodist and in politics a Liberal. He m. Mary Askitt, of
Peel Tp. Issue: William G., James R., Mary E., and Albert E.
