McCULLOUGH, Thomas
(d.), was b. Co. Armagh, Ire., in 1813, and d. 1905, age 92. He came to Canada
in 1840, and in 1842 set. in Arthur, where he owned 150 acres, lot 33, con. 8.
He was a Methodist and a Conservative. In 1856 he m. Ellen Crittenden. Issue:
Mrs. Warren Hathaway, Man.; Mrs. Prior, U.S.; Mrs. James Lennox, Lloydtown;
James (d.); John, Luther; Mrs. Dr. Hacker, Cal.; Mrs. Boswell, Toronto;
Herbert, Luther; Milton, Arthur, and Roy, on the old homestead, Arthur Tp.
John lives upon and owns lot 6, con. 9, West Luther, which he purchased in 1882. He started without means and there were no buildings on his land. By his industry and good management he has paid for it, and a improved it, and it is one of the best farms in the township, with modern house and barns. He carries on mixed farming and keeps thoroughbred stock, mostly Durhams. He has owned some of the best horses in the country, among them, Abdallah Wilkes, with a record of 230. In 1882 he m. Mary Jane, second dau. of the late James Langdon, elsewhere mentioned. To Mrs. McCullough, as well as himself, is due a part of the credit for their success. Issue: James A., and Bert, at home.
