EMERY, John , late of Peel, was b. in Pennsylvania in 1798, and d. in 1887. He came to Canada and set. in York Co.; first in Whitchurch, and in 1840 in King Township. In 1853 he moved to Peel Township, on lot 3, con. 11, where he purchased 100 acres. At that time it was all bush in the country. Mr. Emery took a great interest in the welfare of the community, and was active in the work of establishing free schools, of which he became a Trustee. He was a Christian in his church affiliations, and a Liberal in politics. In 1834, he m. Mary Wilkin, who d. in 1905 aged 89. Issue: Isaac, set. in Mich.; Peter, on the homestead; John, in Hamilton; Joel, Reuben, in London, Ont.; Mrs. Hudson, in the North-West; and Lydia, at home.

Peter Emery, with his sister Lydia, owns the old homestead, on which he lived for 53 years. He is unmarried.
