WATSON, James
(d.), late of Peel, b. in Lanarkshire, Scot., in 1794, and d. in 1885.
He came to Canada in 1844, and rented a farm in Whitby, and in 1854, came to
Peel and purchased 200 acres of land, lot 12, con. 6, which at that time was
all bush. He came from Whitby by team over a very muddy road in which they were
frequently mired, spending five days on the journey. Mr. Watson was a man of
sterling integrity. He was a Trustee of the Presbyterian church, and in
politics a Liberal. He was repeatedly offered the appointment if Justice of the
Peace, but would not accept. In 1822 he m. Jean Tweedie, who d. in 1886 age 84.
Issue: William, Mrs. John Slimmon (d.), John, on the homestead; Mrs. Heborn, in
Whitby; Mrs. MacIntosh (d.), Mrs. Patterson (d.), James (d.), Mrs. Duff, Port
Elgin, and Elizabeth, on the homestead.
William Watson, b. in Lanarkshire, Scot, in 1823, was 20 years old when he came to Canada with his father. He owns 100 acres of hand on lot 12, con 6, and carries on mixed farming. He has been very successful, and at the age of 82 is in perfect health. He is held in the highest estimation by his neighbours, and had been and Elder in the Pres. church for 40 years. He is a Liberal in politics. In 1867, he m. Isabella Watt. Issue: James, in Peel; Mrs. S. J. Stubbs, Smith's Falls; Mrs. Johnston, Peel; Mrs. Small, Wellesley Tp.; Alexander W., Peel; Bella, at home, and W. N. at home.
