MARTIN, David M.
, b. Waterloo Co., Ont., 1848. He came to
Peel in 1869, and purchased the farm of 125 acres on lot 21, con. 2, now
occupied by his son, Reuben B. In 1905 he removed to St. Jacob's, where he
living retired. While on the farm he made a specialty of heavy draught
horses, for which he obtained good prices. He was a School Trustee for some
years; is a Mennonite in religion, and in politics a Liberal. He is highly
respected, and a first class citizen. He m. Mary A. Brubacker. Issue: Amanda,
Reuben B. and Leander B.
Reuben B., b. in Peel, occupies his father's farm, known as "Beaver Meadow Stock Farm," where he breeds Holstein cattle and Dorset horned sheep, which he has exhibited at various fairs with great success, winning many first prizes. On cow, "Beauty of Beaver Meadow," has never been beaten for first prize. His herd also includes "Sir Fairmount Dekol," a thoroughbred bull, bred at the O.A.C., Guelph, a full brother to the second best cow at the Pan-American Exhibition held in Buffalo in 1901. One ewe in 1905 was the mother of seven lambs, an almost unheard of record. Mr. Martin is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. Me m. Lydia Honsinger. Issue: Ester P. and Eva M.
