WARD, John
(d.) was b. in Birminghan, Eng., where he learned the shoe-maker's
trade. He came at an early date to Cavan Tp., where carried on his trade until
1861, when he came to Minto and purchased 100 acres, lot 62, con. D. this farm
he cleared and also pursued his trade. He m. Jane Grieves, and had the
following issue: Mrs. Thomas Niven, John Jr., James, and Charles H. The late
John Ward, d. on his Minto farm, age 65. He was a pioneer in Minto . Although
the gravel road had been built, the township had not made great progress during
the seven years since active settlement had commenced. He was a consistent
member of the Church of England, and in politics a Conservative, and had the
confidence and respect of the community. Charles H. Ward, his son, m. Rebecca
Wickins. He has carried on the livery business and 'bus line in Harriston, for
over twenty years, and is an active energetic citizen, both popular and
accommodating.
