TAYLOR, SAMUEL, (d.). This respected citizen of Minot was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1805, and was there raised and received his education. His daughters have in their possession the school and many other books belonging to their father. One of these books, "The Book of Psalms, " was printed in 1612, while "First Embassy to the Hague, " bears the imprint of 1668, and a "Life of Robinson Crusoe," 1777.

The late Samuel Taylor came to Canada in 1828, and set. in Nassagaweya, and later in Puslinch . He m. Margaret Hutcheon in 1838, in Nassagaweya As will be seen he was one of the very first pioneers in the above townships, and experienced all of the vicissitudes of pioneer life. He was a man of more than ordinary ability and energy, and was very successful. In 1873 he sold out in Puslinch and came to Minto, where he purchased 165 acres, lot 30, con. 17, and settled upon it. The same characteristic energy obtained with him in Minto, and he became an influential citizen of the township. He was a Township and County Councillor while in Puslinch, and was a Justice of the Peace in both Puslinch and Minto. He was a man of the strictest integrity, and scrupulously exact in the fulfilment of every obligation, and especially in attending to any business put in his charge, either officially or otherwise. He d., in 1882, age 77 years; and his wife in 1891, age 80. Issue: Robert, Postmaster at Dominion City, Man.; Elizabeth, John, William (d. age 33), Hannah, James, in Delavan, Tazewell Co. Ill.; and Jane d. Winnipeg, 1875; Charles R., Man., and George, who lived in Pembina Co., N.D., nineteen years. He was a leading and wealthy man. He retired to Winnipeg.

John, unm., owns and lives on the old homestead, and his sisters reside with him. He lived for twenty-five years in Tazewell Co. Ill. The members of the family in the North-West are large land owners.
