JOHNSON, Thomas
. This respected citizen of Harriston was b. in Leeds Co., Ont., in 1836, where
he was raised and m. Mary Phillips. In 1873 he came to Harrison, where he has
for years conducted the cartage and draying business, accumulating a fine
property. Mr. Johnson is a member of the Methodist church, and in politics is a
Liberal.
He enjoys the confidence and respect of the community at large. He is
practically retired from the business, which he has turned over to his son
Edward Johnson; the latter is one of the energetic and pushing men of
Harriston.
The horses that he uses in his business are the best of their class that money can buy, and usually take first prize at the surrounding fairs. He has held the offices of Chief of Police of Harriston and county Constable for a number of years. He is also Chairman of the Public School Board, of which he has been a member for some years. He owns a tract of land within the corporate limits of Harriston, which is quite valuable. He m. Mary Roberts. Issue: John P., Thomas P., Adelbert W. and George R.
