EPWORTH, William
(d.). This sturdy pioneer was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., Jan.
28th, 1825, and in 1850 emigrated to Canada. He remained a short time, and
returned to England, and again came to Canada in 1854. when he joined the
pioneer band, which made their first settlement in Minto. He secured lot 33,
con. 9, built a log house, and made quite a substantial clearing, although at
this
time money was of the trade being carried on in traffic. He took unto himself
a wife in, the person of Jane Ferguson, dau.of a pioneer, and together they
accumulated a fine property. Besides the homestead, which is now owned and
occupied by his son Charles, he became possession of 260 acres in addition,
which he left to his family. The old homestead has never had a mortgage on
it, and is in an excellent state of cultivation. The late William Epworth
was an energetic, pushing citizen, and a man of strict integrity. He was a
consistent member of the Methodist Church. He d. in 1896, age 71 years.
