FORREST, Walter
(d.), b. Lanarkshire, Scot., in 1813, d. in 1886, age 73. He
came to Hamilton with his family in 1857, where he stayed for eight months,
while looking for a suitable place to locate. His attention was drawn to the
Queen's Bush, and in 1858 he purchased 100 acres, lot 12, con. 3,
Maryborough, and stock from William Jordan, who was the original settler. He
had enough money to pay cash and he finished clearing the place, and lived
there until his death. The late Mr. Forrest was a Presbyterian and a
Liberal. He m. Elizabeth Stewart, in Scot., who d. in 1896, age 84. Issue:
John (d.); Alexander, Moorefield; James, Charles, Winnipeg; Mrs. D. Blair,
Dakota, and Mrs. John Collison, Stratford.
James, b. Scot., in 1844, was 13 years of age when he came with his parents to Queen's Bush. He now owns the homestead, which he has increased by the purchase of the other half of lot 12, con. 3, giving him 200 acres of prime land. He carries on mixed farming, is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Margaret Forrest in 1875.
