McDOUGALL, Archibald (d.), was b. Ayrshire, Scot., and came to Canada in 1830, and set. in Erin Tp., con. 8, lot 8, where he owned 100 acres, He was one of the very early settlers of that township, where he hewed a home out of the bush, and became a prosperous citizen. He m. Janet Malloy. They were members of the Disciples church, and in politics Liberal. Issue: John, Archibald, Jr., Hugh, Mrs. Henry Reid, Charles, Daniel, Duncan, and Edward.

John, M. Nancy McDougall, and set. finally in Wiarton, where he died.

Archibald, Jr., m. Janet Parker, and set. in Erin. He d. in 1905, age 70.

Hugh, m. Catherine McArthur, and set. finally in the N.W., where he became a prosperous farmer. He d. 1901, age 73.

Charles, b. in Erin, 1837, and raised there. In 1873, he bought lot 21, con. 6, 100 acres in Eramosa, and later in 1878, removed to Guelph City, and now makes a home at St. Thomas., with his son, Rev. William C. , who is principal of the Disciples College there. His second son Charles, Jr., made his first start in Erin, and has been very successful. He was a School Trustee for some years, and had taken on active interest in church matters. He m. first, Harriet Tolton. Issue: Leonard, Mrs. John Stewart, Hannah, Mrs. (Dr.) Moore, Rev. William C., Mrs. Leonard Klink, and Harriet. Second wife, Anne J. Irvine. Issue: Maggie, Gertrude, Irvine, and Reuben. Leonard, b. in Erin, came to Eramosa in 1873, when ten years of age, and has since lived there, where he owns the McDougall homestead, to which he has added 50 acres, making his holdings 150 acres. He carries on mixed farming, and is one of the successful men of the township. He has been a member of the Eramosa Township Council for some years. He m. Mary Dickieson. Issue: Stanley, John, Charles, Nellie, Leonard, Jr., Gordon, Melvin, and Mary.
