WHITE, Neil
, (d.), was b. in Isle Islay, Scot. in 1839. When seven years of age, his
father John White, came with his family to Canada. This was in 1846, and they
stopped first in Erin, where they remained about a year. In 1847, they settled
in Arthur, and in 1854, John White with his family, including Neil and James
came to Minto and took up lots 24 and 25, con. 4. They were among the few first
settlers on the line, and lived there respected the balance of their days. Neil
White was especially a representative citizen. He was one of the founder of
Knox Church and took an active interest in affairs generally. He m. first,
Margaret Gillespie, and for his second wife, Catherine Ferguson. His widow and
two sons, Archibald, and George C. White, carry on the homestead farm in con. 4.
