LAMBERT, James A
., is a native of Prince Edward Co., and a descendant of the well-known U.E.L.
families of the Bay of Quinte district, who were the first settlers in Upper
Canada. They came to Hay Bay about 1790, from the Mohawk Valley, after the
Revolutionary War, and were the Bonters and Lamberts on his father's side, and
the Platts and Spencers on his mother's side. Mr. Lambert was preparing for the
profession of teaching, but left school, and decided to adopt the newspaper
business as a permanency. He commenced with Bidwell Way in the New Nation, since
amalgamated with the Pictou Times. He remained there about four years, when he
took the management of the Prescott Telegram, after which he accepted a
position with the Canada Presbyterian, of Toronto and there remained until he
came to Mount Forest in 1879, to take the management of the Confederate. Four
years later he took the management of the Advocate, of Mount Forest, and in
January, 1885, he founded the Mount Forest Representative, a Conservative
newspaper which he has conducted successfully ever since. The Representative is
one of the weekly newspapers in Wellington Co. Mr. Lambert also carries on a
large job printing department. He m. Miss Jennie Wrigglesworth, of the Halton
Co. family of that name. Issue: Norman, in Toronto University, and Elmer in the
office with his father.
