GILMORE, Joseph
, came to Arthur Tp. with his parents when young, his father having taken up
272 acres, where his sons stayed and became wealthy citizens. Joseph took lot
27, con. 6, where he remained until 1896, when he retired to Toronto with the
honor and respect of the entire community. He was elected to the Council, and
was also Reeve and County Councillor. He was a Steward and Sec’y-Treas. of the
Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Elizabeth Harvie (d.).
Issue: John H., Peel; Mary E., Toronto; Joseph , U.S.A.; Thomas J., Mrs. Nobel
Giles, Brampton; Minnie E., Toronto; and Harvey.
Thomas James lives upon and owns the homestead of 93 acres, lot 27 con. 6, Arthur, where he carries on mixed farming and is starting a herd of Durhams. He is a successful and respected citizen in the township. In religion he is a Methodist, and a Conservative in politics. In 1895 he m. Christina Rogers. Issue: Harold, Stanley and Pearl.
