CHERRY, John A.
(d.), b. in Yorkshire, Eng., 1822, d. 1895. He came to Canada in 1842, set.
in Wellesley Tp., and in 1848 became a pioneer in Maryborough Tp., where he
purchased and set. on 200 acres of bush land, lot 8, con. 5. This farm was
cleared and improved, it being, at the time of his death, one of the finest
in the locality. Mr. Cherry was a good farmer, and a very successful man. He
was of a retiring disposition, and had the confidence and respect of the
community. He made a specialty of thorough bred cattle, and also carried on
mixed farming. He m. Maria Evans. Robert Cherry, son of the above, was b. in
Maryborough Tp. in 1857, and has always lived there. He succeeded to 100
acres of the old homestead, where he resides, and carries on mixed farming,
making a specialty of fine stock, and is one of the substantial farmers of the
township. He m. Sarah Cummings. Issue: Mary, Martha T., John A., Sarah R.,
Annie V., and Ruba. Both Robert Cherry and his father belonged to the Liberal
party.
