HENDERSON, Simon
. The Hendersons come of loyal stock. Their grandfather served his country in
Ireland in 1798, and at other times. Their mother, b. 1818, was a daughter of a
U. E. L., who, with his wife, came from Schoharie, in New York State, and drew
land under the proclamation. An uncle, John Henderson, a merchant of Hollivale
Village (now Napanee), who had previously received a military training in
Enniskillen, Ireland, got up a company of volunteers, fifty in number, and went
to the front to quell the Mackenzie Rebellion, receiving his captain's pay.
Simon Henderson was b. Esquesing, 1846. He owns 100 acres, lot 4, con. 8, West Garafraxa., where he carries on mixed farming. In 1887 he m. Sarah Piper, who d. 1897, regretted by all. Mr. Henderson is universally liked and respected by all who know him. His word is his bond. He is a Recording Steward of the Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative. His children are Clarence and May, both attending the Fergus High School, and Gladys attending the public school at this writing. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
