LYNES, John (d.), b. Co. Kerry, Ire., 1819, and d. 1899, age 80. He came to Canada in 1847, and set. first in Peel Tp., removing to West Garafraxa in 1853, where he owned 100 acres, lot 19, cons. 2 and 3. He was a Roman Catholic, and a Conservative. He m. Margaret Clifford, who d. 1889, age 68. Of his family only one, James Lynes, set. in Arthur, and John in West Garafraxa.

James was b. in Peel Tp. in 1852, and raised in Peel and West Garafraxa. He learned the blacksmithing and waggonmaking trade in Fergus, and in 1875 started on his own account in this line at Cotswold. In 1885 he sold out and moved to Kenilworth, where he has since carried on the business on a large scale. He started in life with nothing, and has been very successful, building up his business by his own energy. He is a member of the Roman Catholic church, and is a Liberal. He m. Lena Podesta. They have a family of four sons and seven daughters living, and one son aged 8 years, deceased.

John, b. Peel Tp. in 1853, He succeeded to the homestead in W. Garafraxa, which he has brought up to a high state of cultivation with well-tilled fields and good fences, large barns and a fine brick residence. He follows mixed farming and breeds some fine stock. He had never sought any public office beyond Township Assessor. He m. Mary Murphy.. Issue: John J., Nicholas, Kairn, William, and Eugene. In religion he is a Roman Catholic, and in politics a Conservative.
