CAMPBELL, John (d.), b. Scot. 1813; d. 1879, age 65. He came to Arthur Tp. from the Old Country in 1849 and took up the present homestead of 89 acres, lot 7, con. 8, which he cleared and improved and brought to its present state of cultivation. His mother came to Canada with him, but d. shortly after arriving. He never cared for public life, and was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. In 1846 in Scot. he m. Mary Campbell, who d. in 1889, age 69. Issue: Ann, on the homestead; Mrs. John Woodhouse, Toronto; Mary and William at home; and Mrs. Alex. McLauchlin, Arthur. William, b. 1861, inherits the homestead where he carries on mixed farming. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. In 1897 he m. Effie MacLachlan. Issue: John.
