FARRELLY, John (d.), late of Peel, was b. in Co. Leitrim, Ire., in 1824, and d. in 1901, at the age of 78. He came to Canada in 1847, with his father and three brothers, Thomas, Charles and George. They were three months on the way, and his father and brother George d. on the voyage. Mr. Farrelly brought little money with him but acquired considerable property, owning 400 acres at one time, and leaving his family well off. His brothers were also land owners in Peel. He helped to build the old English Church in Alma, and was one of its Wardens. He was a strong, vigorous man, temperate in his habits. In politics he was a Liberal. He m. first Jane Cowan, b. in Ire. Issue: Thomas, James, Mrs. Isaac French and Mrs. Nicholas Sheard,, of Hamilton. Second wife, Sarah Cousins, b. in Canada, who is living age 67. Issue: John C. ,Robert H., Levi, in California; Ephraim in Wisconsin, and Joseph E., of Parry Sound.

Thomas, m. Martha Croswell, set. Parry sound, Issue: Edward W., Annilisea, John C., Sarah and Mary.

James, b. Peel owns 220 acres, lots 16 and 17, con. 17. He has a fine farm, well timbered and watered, and make a specialty of stock raising, and is also an extensive dealer in timber. He is a Methodist in religion and in politics a Liberal. In 1901 he was President of the Patrons of Industry of the county of Wellington. He is a highly respected citizen of a kindly disposition, and prominent in the community. He has been twice married. His first wife was Martha Thompson, dau. of John Thompson. She d.in 1883. Issue: Thompson K. Later he m. Annie Thompson, who d. in 1898.

John C. Farrellly owns 100 acres, on lot 17, con. 15, Peel, one of his father's farms. He is engaged in mixed farming, and feeds cattle for export. He breeds Durham and Hereford cattle and Yorkshire hogs, also hackney and coach horses. He has a fine barn with cement floor. Mr. Farrelly is a practical farmer, and a prosperous business man. He is a Presbyterian, and in politics a Conservative. He m. Jennie Gray. They have one child, Beryl.

Robert H.. m. Edna Beam, and lives on the old homestead, lot 17, con. 15, Peel.
