JACKSON, Joseph, Sr . (d.), was b. Yorkshire, Eng., and m. Elizabeth Fenwick there. Two of their sons, John and George, came to Canada to "spy out the land" in 1831, and the following year Mr. Jackson, and the balance of his family came and settled in the "Paisley Block," lot 17, con. 2 and 3. He only lived a few years after settling here, passing away, age 66. Their issue was: Willy, Thomas, John, George (d. young); Joseph , Jr., Mrs. William Rickaby, Mrs. George Renton, and Mrs. John Pearson.

Willy, b. Eng. 1803, d. 1869, age 66, m. Margaret Quarry and set. on lot 17, con. 3. Issue: William, Thomas, Mrs. William Patterson, Mrs. James Buchan, and Mrs. John Stewart. Of his sons, William, m. Flora Stewart, dau. of the late John Stewart, also a pioneer of Guelph Tp. He owns the old homestead, which he operates. Issue: John W., Herbert F., Hector S., and Vincent H. John W., m. Emily A. Kerby. Issue: Henry L. Hector S., m. Caroline H. Hadden. Issue: Mary F.

Thomas is in the General Insurance Business in Guelph. He m. Ellen Patterson (d.). Issue: Gertrude, Rowena, and Helen.

Thomas b. Eng., 1804, m. Ann Sellears. He set. in Guelph, on lot 7, con. 2 B., which he cleared, later purchasing 50 acres additional, and here he lived until his death in 1870. Issue: Mrs. Benj. Sallows, George, Mrs. Francis Flood, and Joseph. Of these, George, set. in Chicago.

Joseph bought the farm from the heirs, and lives upon it. He later bought 100 acres additional, making his holdings 250 acres. It is considered one of the most attractive homes on the "Block." He m. Isabella Leader. Issue: Thomas, Mrs. Victor Hood, Mrs. William Sleeman, Mrs. William Jackson, Albert E., Mrs. William Morton, Mrs. John Stacock, Mrs. William Young, Minnie S., Ada M., Joseph E., John, and Emma J. (d. age 27).

John, b. Eng., m. Esther Cousins. He was a tanner in Guelph. Issue: John , Charles, Mrs. Morris, and Mrs. Curry.

Joseph, Jr., b. Eng. 1811, d. 1890, came to "Paisley Block, " in 1832, and helped his father and brothers to clear the home farm. In 1858, he bought 150 acres, lots 8 and 9, con. 1, B., and lived there until his death. Mr. Jackson assisted in hauling stones for the first Knox Church. He was an enterprising and successful citizen. He was three times married. He first wife was Mary McCorkindale. Issue: Henry, killed, Am. Civil War; John, in Chicago; George in U.S.; Joseph S., and Archibald. Joseph S., m. Elizabeth S. Hood and owns a farm on con. 2, Guelph Tp., and has two children: Grace, and Walter. Archibald m. Annie Brightmore, and owns 150 acres on con. 1, B., and has the following children: Olive D., and Percival T. He makes a specialty of thoroughbred Shorthorns. Mr. Jackson's second wife Ellen Atkinson. No issue. Later he m. Eliza Brightmore. Issue: Frederick W., set. Regina, and Oswald H., set. Calgary. The daughters of Joseph Jackson, Jr., are: Mrs. Archibald Sloan, and Mrs. William Jenkinson.

The Jackson family have always been large land owners in Guelph Tp., as well as enterprising and representative citizens.

In Eng., the family were members of the Church of England, but they have generally affiliated with the Presbyterian church in Canada, and in politics belong to the Liberal Party. They are also connected by marriage with many of the best families in Guelph Tp.
