SHEEHY, Patrick
(d.), b. Innis, Ire., 1819, d. 1903, age 84. He came to Canada in 1841, and
set. in Arthur, on 100 acres, lots 2 and 3 west of the O.S.R. He was Tp.
Councillor for many years, and a Reformer in politics. In religion he was a
Roman Catholic, and took an active part in his church. In 1847 he m. Mary
Barrett, who is living, age 79. There are ten children, Michael, Edward (d.);
Mrs. D. Dineen, Arthur Tp.; John, in Chicago; Mrs. D. Cleary, Arthur; George in
Chicago; Mrs. G. Lang, Arthur Tp.; Daniel, in Arthur; Mrs. George Crowley, and
Mrs. George Schmidt, Arthur Tp. Of these, Michael, the oldest son succeeded his
father on the homestead, and owns in all three hundred acres. He carries on
mixed farming, and has fine buildings, and the best stock that he can purchase.
Mr. Sheehy was one of the early settlers in his township, and experienced all
of the hardships and labors of pioneer life, and he owes the success which he
has achieved to his energy and good Irish constitution. Among his buildings
there is a very fine barn, 60 x 40 feet, with about 1,200 feet of cement
flooring, and all the latest improvements. There are eight children, Mrs. E.
Hines, Mich.; Edward, John, Patrick, Agnes, Ambrose, Matthias, and May, all at
home.
