FLETCHER, Samuel
(d.), b. Nottinghamshire, Eng., 1812, d., 1887. He m. Rebecca Coleman in Eng.,
who d. in 1897, age 80 years. The late Samuel Fletcher, and his nephew, the
late John Fletcher, came to Canada from England in 1842, and bought lot 2, con.
4, Eramosa, later dividing same, each retaining fifty acres. Some years later,
late John Fletcher sold his farm and retired to Rockwood, where he died.
Issue: of the late Samuel Fletcher: John, Joseph, b. in Eng.; Mrs. Jas. Laird, who later m. Thomas Downing; Samuel, Jr., and Mrs. William McKee. John m. Margaret Laird, set. Erin. Issue: Mrs. George Ellington, Mrs. Thomas Lynch, Mrs. Smith, George, Mrs. Arch McKinnon, and Ethel Joseph, b. Eng., 1840, was educated at the Rockwood Academy, going to school with James J. Hill. He m. Rebecca Gordon. Issue: Mrs. James C. Turner, John G., William J., Rebecca, Mrs. Robert Dyson, Mrs. Charles Warren, George, Mabel, and Alice. Of this branch, John G., m . Mary E. Forrester. Issue: Josephine. He lives on and works the old Eramosa homestead, 100 acres. William J., m. Florence Miller. He is a general merchant at Oustic. Joseph Fletcher is one of the most respected citizens in Eramosa, where he has spent over sixty years of his useful life. He has been in municipal office for ten years, holding the offices successively of Councillor, Deputy Reeve, and Reeve. He is a well informed man on the general topics of the day, and devotes a large share of his time to reading, as he has practically retired from active life.
