ROBERTS, William
(d.), was b. Yorkshire, Eng., 1830, and came to Canada in 1852, and
first stopped at Whitby. In taking account of his assets lie found himself
possessed of just one sovereign, with which to begin life in a new country.
He found employment on a farm at low wages, and by the strictest economy, he
found in 1854 that he could take a partner in life, and m. Margaret Dalley,
and in 1855 they came to Minto and took up lot 29, con.10, where they settled.
This farm he cleared, and in 1877 purchased lot 2, con. 6, upon which he lived until his death. His widow survives him and lives on the homestead with her son Samuel. The late William Roberts start in in life with so little by his own industry became an influential and prosperous citizen, respected by the community at large, and at the time of his death possessed of 200 acres of land besides other property. He had a family of twelve children, eight of whom are living, and are worthy citizens. Samuel Roberts, the youngest son, runs the homestead farm and is a prosperous and enterprising man.
