COLE, James was b. near Dublin, Ire. in 1828; d. 1886, age 58. He came to Canada with his brothers, Richard and Joseph, one of whom d. on the way out. They located in Arthur, and later James located 200 acres of land, east half Lot 13, and west half Lot 14, Con. 16. He gave the east half of 13 to his brother-in-law, Joseph Kidd, in consideration of receiving 100 pounds of flour. He cleared the remainder and helped to chop out the Burwell line. He was a strong, active man, a hard worker, and a good horseman. He was a member of the English church, and a strong Conservative. He m. first Mary Arnold. Issue: Mrs. Wm. J. Martin, Arthur. His second wife was Elizabeth Griffith. Issue: Jacob, Mrs. William Small, Maryborough; Mrs. Arthur Morrison, Arthur; James Henry, Maryborough; and Mrs. Arthur Smith, Arthur.

Jacob was b. on the homestead in 1873. He purchased the place, buying out the other heirs, and has been very successful. He keeps first class grade cattle and Leiceser sheep, and for some time has been raising heavy and general purpose horses for local sale. He is a Methodist and a Conservative, and has been Trustee S.S. No. 8 (my note: the local schools) for three years. He m. Elizabeth McColgan. Issue: Myrtle J.
